From December 7 2003, the franchise for Welsh train services was taken over by Arriva Trains Wales, which operates services formerly run by Wales and Borders, including Valley Lines.
Services between South Wales and London Paddington continue to be operated by First Great Western, which has also acquired the routes from South Wales and Bristol to Portsmouth and Weymouth.
Virgin Trains run between
Holyhead and London Euston.
Cross Country Trains run between Cardiff and Birmingham/

Wrexham and Shropshire Trains operated between Wrexham and London Marylebone, but the company ceased trading in January 2011
